A couch favourite: Footy fever reveals $50M win

Despite missed calls and prompted emails, a Wyndham Vale man was watching a late-night footy game before he finally checked his marked four-game Powerball ticket, and discovered he’d scored a division one win.

“I’m in shock! I’m just sitting here watching the footy with my son. When my wife gets home, I have news for her! I think she won’t believe me, but when I show her the ticket, she’ll get the shakes and start crying,” he shared when we revealed he’d won $50 million.

“I only ever play the smallest entry. You don’t need a big entry to win.

“I decided to choose number 14 for the Powerball number as it’s my favourite football number.”

His winning entry was registered to The Lott Members Club, which meant we were able to unite him with the winning news straight away.

In our opinion, a winning phone call from The Lott is the best wake-up alarm. When we called a Morwell couple first thing in the morning, they couldn’t believe they held the only division one winning entry in Set for Life, pocketing $20,000 a month for the next 20 years.

“I don’t mind being woken up with good news. What a shock,” they both exclaimed.

“Gosh, what does it do for us? You always think of all these things you would do if you won, but when it comes to it, your mind goes blank!

“We don’t have much on for the rest of the day, so we’ll just let it sink in and have a good think about everything. We’ve had some tough times recently, so this is some really amazing news.

“We’ve never been so lucky in our life! Thank you!”
