In case you missed it: Karama dad pays off daughter’s uni fees with Lotto win
Winning the lottery may seem like a dream—but for this week’s winners it was a dream come true! From belated anniversary celebrations and globe-trotting in business class to “a nice lunch”, our winners knew exactly what to cross off their lists first. Catch up on the memorable stories below!
Missed call to cash haul
Now this is a missed call we would rush to return. Following a camping trip with no mobile service, a Macksville woman was met with a flood of missed calls and messages – only to discover she’d won $100,000 in a recent Lucky Lotteries draw!
“I’ll have to tell my husband! He’s out fixing the generator,” she exclaimed.
“We’ve been camping in a spot that doesn’t have great mobile coverage. But then, when we got here, my phone went off with all the bells and whistles. I had a few missed calls and messages – I thought someone had died!
“I might put some bubbly in the fridge when the generator is working again.
“I think there will be plenty more holidays and adventures – I’m actually thinking we might upgrade to business class on our next overseas trip just for the experience!”
Lotto love blooms
Valentine’s Day may have come and gone but love's still in the air. A Stawell couple—who skipped their honeymoon more than two decades ago—are now cashing in their heart-stopping $1.6 million Saturday Lotto win for the trip of a lifetime.
“Oh, thank you so much!” he laughed.
“I refused to believe the news because I didn’t want to jinx it. I told my wife that I wouldn’t believe the news until I received the winning phone call, but here we are!”
“We still haven’t done our honeymoon, which was more than 20 years ago. We would love to go somewhere in Australia.”
The love didn’t stop there, with a Karama dad using his division one Saturday Lotto win to pay off his daughter’s university fees. When we called the grateful dad with the life-changing news, he explained it wouldn’t be possible without his split-second decision to wait for his local store to open.
“I had parked outside the local supermarket on Saturday, waiting for TSG Karama to open. I was debating whether I should stick around a little longer to buy a ticket,” he explained.
“I am feeling incredibly grateful for waiting around and purchasing the ticket. If I had just drove off, maybe I would’ve never won $1.6 million!
“I phoned my daughter straight away, and she immediately burst into tears. She cried and cried.
“I’ll be buying a house in Darwin, and then maybe one in Perth too. I’ll then look to pay my daughter’s university fees.”
First things first: lunch
From scratching his way to an Instant Scratch-Its $150,000 top prize win, to scratching his head in disbelief. A Nanango man has declared the first thing he wants to do with his prize is surprise his wife.
“Geez whiz! I’m still struggling to find my words,” he said.
“I keep scratching my head. It’s still so hard to believe this is all real.
“I’m going to go surprise my wife with a nice lunch out now that the win is confirmed.
“It’s going to help us in so many ways. Thank you.”
