Bright new beginnings, a generous grandad, and a helping hand to the family... We’ve got the warm and fuzzy tingles this week hearing how our lottery winners are supporting their nearest and dearest. It was a flurry of excitement on Tuesday evening after the Oz Lotto game served up the entire $70 million jackpot to a Tasmanian player. Read about this and more below!

Tasmania’s top ticket

A soon-to-be Apple Isle retiree is crunching into the sweet surprise that his marked 18-game entry landed him the sensational $70 million Oz Lotto division one prize on Tuesday.

“I have hardly slept all night. I was wondering if I was dreaming, and I was going to wake up and someone was going to say, it was all just a dream,” he shared.

Now sharing the title as the second-biggest individual winner of the Oz Lotto game, the Tasmanian man is ready to hand in his notice, say goodbye to mortgage repayments and make big plans to support his family.

“Buying a dream home with my partner and helping my family out. Oh, this is absolutely brilliant, absolutely brilliant... I’ve had a (rough) couple of years,” he explained.

“I am just getting back on my feet, and I still have a mortgage when everyone else (my age) is about to retire. I have been saying I will have to work until I am 70, but not now.”

The golden years

The party’s also just getting started for a Black Forest man, whose eye-watering $1.1 million Keno Spot 10 win is setting him up for a smooth ride into retirement.

“I’ve got to say, it’s better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick!” he joked when we confirmed his win.

“Time to party! Just kidding, I’m too old for that now.

“Being this old, there’s a lot I can’t do, but this will really come in handy. It’ll certainly boost my retirement.

“I’ve played a lot of Lotto in my life, but this was one of the first couple of times I’ve played Keno, so it’s pretty cool.”

Spreading the kindness

Meanwhile in the sunny state, a Kallangur grandad is kicking his feet up with the news that his winning $10 Lucky Gems Instant Scratch-Its ticket took out a $250,000 top prize.

“I’ve already planned to give most of it to my children. They’ve got families and houses and that,” he said.

“I’ve been pretty calm myself. I actually scratched the ticket a week ago but had been sitting on it.

“I’ve been playing Instant Scratch-Its tickets since they first started. It’s been a long time!”

Happily ever after

And finally, a Pyrmont mum’s ready to stop and smell the roses – quite literally, as she prepares to splurge on her daughter’s wedding flowers after winning the 1st Prize in Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw.

“Oh my god! Oh my god! This is one of those calls everyone wants!” she cheered.

“My husband is having a heart attack next to me. This is amazing.

“Funnily enough, I have a daughter’s wedding coming up and we were just talking about how expensive flowers are.”
