Here at The Lott, we’re committed to keeping you secure when you play in-store and online. We have dedicated teams, services and product features to help keep you, your prizes and your personal information safe.

Keep your information safe

Keeping your information safe is our priority. That’s why we have a range of security features and services to help protect you.

How you can protect yourself

Protect yourself with these tips and resources to help keep your personal information secure.

1. Always check the url

Scammers often create fake websites that look like The Lott. When searching online, always make sure the URL is www.thelott.com. If you're unsure, type the address directly into your browser or use a bookmark you trust. Never click on links from unsolicited emails or ads that seem too good to be true.

2. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Add an extra layer of protection to your account by enabling two-factor authentication. This means even if someone gets your password, they still can’t access your account without a second form of verification.

3. Use strong, unique passwords

Add an extra layer of protection to your account by enabling two-factor authentication. This means even if someone gets your password, they still can’t access your account without a second form of verification.

4. Reduce your online account balance

The Lott takes your personal security very seriously. In the unlikely event that your personal details have been compromised, limit your exposure by keeping only the amount you need in your online account. This simple step can help reduce risk if your account is ever compromised.

5. The Lott will never call you and ask for your bank details over the phone

You may call with queries where we will discuss your bank details. If someone contacts you claiming to be from The Lott and requests personal or financial information, hang up and report it immediately. You may receive legitimate emails from The Lott, but for extra security, always log in directly via thelott.com or visit your local retailer.

How we protect you

It’s important for you to be aware that members can be targeted with scams and cyber-attacks. We’re always delivering easy options to help you protect your account and personal information when playing with us online.

1. SMS Security

SMS Security can be activated on your account, which will send you a one-time code via SMS to verify whenever you make important changes to your account. This feature helps to keep your account credentials safe and protects your account from unauthorised access. You can opt into this feature at any time from within your account via our website or The Lott app.

2. Debit and Credit Card Deposits

You will be asked for the CVV of your stored Debit or Credit Card when depositing funds into your account or buying an entry. This is an added step in preventing any fraudulent transactions on your account.

3. Keeping your details up to date

We send you notifications whenever you make changes to your account so it’s important to make sure your key information such as your name, email address and contact number are always up to date.

4. Prize protection on entries purchased in-store

Our membership program is designed to give you peace of mind that your prizes are always protected. By becoming a member with us you can register all lottery entries you purchase in-store to your membership. Any prizes won from your registered entries can only be claimed in-store upon presentation of your Membership card, or are automatically paid into a bank account of your choosing after a set period of time, ensuring that if you lose a ticket, you never lose your prize.

5. Players 1st Hotline

Our Players 1st program aims to ensure the right prize goes to the right person. If you ever have concerns about the service you’ve received when checking your entries in-store call our Players 1st Hotline on 1300 752 937 immediately.

How to identify lottery scams

Scams can be challenging to recognise as scammers try to make their communications, websites and apps look as legitimate as possible.

As the Official Home of Australia’s Lotteries, The Lott, our state licensee and recognisable game brands can be commonly used to convince you that a lottery or prize win is legitimate in an attempt to obtain your personal or financial information. Here are some handy tips to help you identify a potential lottery scam.

1. Misspelt or Suspicious Email Addresses

Emails from The Lott will always end in thelott.com

If the sender address is unusual, misspelt or slightly different from the correct address, it is likely to be a phishing email.  The Lott will never ask for sensitive information like passwords or credit card details via email, phone or SMS.

If you receive any suspicious communications claiming to be from us, do not click on any links or provide personal information. Instead, report it immediately to The Lott by clicking on Report a Scam button below or by calling us on 131 868.

2. Urgent Requests

Scammers often create a sense of urgency, pressuring you to act quickly or provide personal information. Please note that The Lott will never request any personal information such as bank account details.

3. Unusual Requests

Be cautious of unsolicited email and SMS messages asking for sensitive information, such as passwords and financial details.

Messages which notify you that your account has been suspended or you have won a prize can be confusing, but trust your gut - if you receive a SMS from The Lott that you weren’t expecting, report it immediately to The Lott by clicking on Report a Scam button below or by calling us on 131 868.

4. Too Good to Be True

Scammers might promise unrealistically high winnings or benefits in exchange for immediate action or payment.

5. Request for Payment

Legitimate lottery winnings will never require payment to claim your prize. Be wary of any such requests.

If you believe you have already fallen victim to a scam you should report it to the Police, change your passwords immediately and notify us.
